Preparation for Holy Communion

Partaking of the Holy Mysteries is an essential part of our Christian life.

If possible, prepare for Holy Communion by reading the following, in this order:

• Prayers Prior to the Canon
• The Canons for Holy Communion, Odes I through VI
• An Akathist, either
  • Akathist to our Sweetest Lord Jesus Christ or
  • Akathist to our Most Holy Lady Theotokos
• The Canons for Holy Communion, Odes VII through XI
• Prayers Following the Canon

All who prepare for Holy Communion must read:

• The Order of Preparation for Holy Communion

One may also read:

• The Canon Of Repentance to Our Lord Jesus Christ

After partaking of Holy Communion, read:
